DOWN
No hellos have yet been received. Routers start with sending hello’s on multicast port 224.0.0.5
INIT
Once R2 receives the hello, the state turns into INIT state
2 WAY
R2 replies with UNICAST hello packet. BDR / DR election happens here too.
EX-START
DR and BDR start exchanging link state information by sending data base description.
LOADING
Routers exchange missing information (they know that from data base description). R1 sends Link State Request and R2 replies with Link State Update.
FULL
Databased are synchronized and routes are exchanged.
